INTRODUCTION

Ecosprin 150 Tablet is an antiplatelet medicine used to treat and prevent heart attacks, strokes and heart-related chest pain (angina). It helps to prevent the formation of blood clots in your blood vessels. It is a very widely used medicine for heart protection.

Ecosprin 150 Tablet is usually best taken with food otherwise it may upset your stomach. The dose that is right for you depends on what you are taking it for and how well it helps your symptoms. You should take it as recommended by your doctor.

The most common side effects of this medicine are heartburn or upset stomach, nausea, and vomiting. These are not usually serious but if you are worried, ask your doctor about ways of reducing or preventing them. This medicine may sometimes cause you to bleed more easily (for example you may get nosebleeds or bruises).

Before taking it, you should let your doctor know if you have ever had a prolonged problem when your blood did not clot properly or if you have had an ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or intestine. To make sure this medicine is safe for you, also tell your doctor if you have trouble with your liver or kidneys, have high blood pressure or asthma. Let your doctor know about all the other medicines you are taking because they may affect, or be affected by, this medicine.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting treatment. It is usually not recommended in later stages of pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Avoid drinking alcohol while you are taking this medicine. Heavy drinking can increase your risk of stomach bleeding.

USES OF ECOSPRIN TABLET

  • Angina (heart-related chest pain)
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke

BENEFITS OF ECOSPRIN TABLET

In Angina (heart-related chest pain)

Aspirin belongs to a group of medicines called salicylates. It works as a blood thinner and is used in small doses to reduce the risk of blood clots forming. It prevents platelets from sticking together thereby preventing the formation of harmful blood clots. This means you are less likely to suffer from angina, a heart attack, a stroke, or other blockages of blood vessels. In larger doses, it may be used in the treatment of a heart attack or a stroke which has been caused by a blood clot. It is likely to be prescribed if you have a high risk of cardiovascular disease and should be taken regularly (usually for the rest of your life) to have a preventive effect.

HOW TO COPE WITH SIDE EFFECTS?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Heartburn
Avoid foods that irritate the stomach such as alcohol, carbonated soft drinks, citrus, coffee, fatty foods or tomatoes. Eat or drink slowly. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. The reason being, large meals fill the stomach and put pressure, causing reflux. Quit smoking if you smoke, lose weight if you are overweight and avoid tight waistbands. Ask your doctor about medicines to treat this condition such as antacids. Do not lie down immediately after eating and wait for at least three hours before lying down after a meal. Raise the head of your bed. Talk to your doctor if your condition does not improve, they may be able to reduce the dosage or switch you to another medicine.
  • Coping with Increased bleeding tendency
Hold a gauze over the area that is bleeding and apply pressure. Holding an ice pack to bruises may make them fade more quickly. Seek emergency help if you are bleeding profusely or if the bleeding doesn’t stop within 15 minutes. If you are bleeding more easily than normal, try to be careful when doing activities that might cause an injury or a cut, as it may take longer to stop bleeding. Use a soft toothbrush and waxed dental floss to clean your teeth. See a doctor if you’re worried about any bleeding.
  • Coping with Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop from feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Upset stomach
Try taking your medicine with a meal or snack, or shortly after eating. It might help to eat smaller and more frequent meals, and to eat and drink slowly. Avoid foods which can irritate your stomach such as carbonated soft drinks, caffeine, fatty and spicy foods, mints and citrus fruits. Quit smoking and alcohol because they increase the symptoms. Do not eat for 3 or 4 hours before going to bed. Try raising the head of your bed at night or use extra pillows. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about medicines that may help, such as antacids, if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Vomiting
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea.
