Thyronorm 37.5mcg Tablet is a medicine used to treat an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). It replaces the hormone which is not being produced by your thyroid gland in sufficient quantity and helps regulate your body’s energy and metabolism.
Before you start taking Thyronorm 37.5mcg Tablet, your doctor will do a blood test to see what dose you need. Once you start taking the medicine, you will have regular blood tests to see how well it is working, and the dose may be adjusted from time to time. It is best taken on an empty stomach before your first meal of the day. You should take this medicine regularly to get the maximum benefit. It may take several weeks before your symptoms start to improve. You may need to take it for the rest of your life. If you stop taking it, your symptoms are likely to come back.
The most common side effects of this medicine are caused by taking a bigger dose than you need. Possible side effects include palpitations (irregular heartbeat), vomiting, anxiety, diarrhea, weight loss, nervousness, or restlessness. Most side effects will disappear once you are on the right dose. Some people may suffer a severe reaction to high levels of thyroid hormone. Call your doctor straight away if you have a very high temperature, fast or irregular heart rate, low blood pressure, yellowness in eye/skin, confusion, or fits.
Thyronorm 37.5mcg Tablet may cause weight loss but should not be prescribed or taken to treat obesity. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, inform your doctor right away as the dose may have to be increased/readjusted. Many other drugs affect the way this medicine works. Ask your doctor for advice if you are taking any other medications.

HOW TO COPE WITH SIDE EFFECTS?
The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.
Coping with PalpitationsIf this happens regularly after you take your medicine, try to take the medicine at a time when you can sit or lie down when the symptoms are worse. It may help to cut down on alcohol, smoking, caffeine and big meals as these might make the problem worse. If you are still having problems after a week, speak to your doctor as you may be offered a different type of medicine.
Coping with VomitingYou can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
Coping with Anxiety, Nervousness, and RestlessnessThis often disappears when the condition you are being treated for is managed. You could ask your doctor about changing the dose of your medicine or alternatives if it is affecting your daily life or causing you distress. Psychological treatments may be available. Some things you can do to help yourself include stopping smoking, cutting down the amount of alcohol and caffeine you drink, and doing regular exercise. You should also eat a healthy diet and find out how to get sleep if you are having trouble. Try talking to a friend or family member. Calming breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques may also help.
Coping with DiarrheaKeep up your intake of fluids and electrolytes (sugars and salts) to avoid getting dehydrated. Eat less fiber (avoid raw fruits, fruit juice and vegetables). Talk to your doctor about possible medication to manage diarrhea. Ask about reducing the dosage of your drug or other suitable treatments.
Coping with Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk)Sip cold or iced drinks. Try cutting down on coffee, tea and alcohol. It might help to keep the room cool and use a fan. You could also spray cool water on your face. Wear layers of light clothing that you can easily take off if you overheat. Breathe deeply and try to relax. Have a lukewarm shower or bath instead of a hot one. Avoid smoking and cut down on alcohol. The flushing should go away after a few days. If it does not go away or causes problems, contact your doctor. There may be medicines that can help.
Coping with Weight lossAs a general rule, speak to your doctor if you lose weight while using this medicine. Losing too much weight can lead to malnutrition. Increase the amount of food you eat. Try eating foods that are high in calories and protein. Drink warm milk instead of tea every so often. Eat smaller meals and eat more often. There may be medicines and physical activities that can improve your condition.Speak to your doctor about this.
