INTRODUCTION

Xarelto 10mg Tablet is a medicine known as an anticoagulant or blood thinner. It helps prevent and treat blood clots. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. It prevents and treats clot formation in the veins of your legs, lungs, brain and heart.

Xarelto 10mg Tablet is commonly used in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) to prevent clot formation. It also reduces the risk of getting clots in people who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries. It should be taken with food and it is best to take them at the same time each day. You may need to take this medicine for many years, even for life in some cases. Do not stop taking it or change the dose without guidance from your doctor. It could quickly put you more at risk of having a heart attack, stroke or thrombosis (formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel). You can reduce your risk of having a blood clot by making changes to your lifestyle, such as not smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and losing weight if you need to.

The most common side effect of Xarelto 10mg Tablet is bleeding more easily than normal, for example, having nosebleeds or bruising. If you experience any symptoms, tell your doctor immediately. Other side effects include low blood pressure, skin rash, stomach ache, indigestion, and fever.

Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney or liver problems, if you are currently bleeding or if you are taking other medicines to reduce blood clotting. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine. Unlike other anticoagulants, a regular blood test (PT-INR) is not required while taking this medicine.

HOW TO COPE WITH SIDE EFFECTS?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Anemia (low number of red blood cells)
Making some simple lifestyle changes can raise your red blood cell count. Reduce the amount of alcohol you drink, eat a well-balanced healthy diet and take regular exercise. Physical activities make your body need more oxygen and this stimulates the production of red blood cells. There are some vitamins which are important such as vitamin B-12, vitamin B-9, vitamin C and Vitamin A. Also, some minerals such as iron (especially) and copper. Aim for foods which contain higher quantities of these vitamins and minerals or ask your doctor for supplements. Make sure to consult your doctor for complete evaluation and treatment of anemia.
  • Coping with Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop from feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
